THE MAGIC OF DIWALI
Eyes feast on thousands of lit oil lamps illuminating the inside and outside of houses as the skies are brightened by fireworks. Mothers excitedly are in the midst of putting the finishing touches to the upcoming feast to be served. Women adorned in colorful and intricately designed outfits warmly welcome family members to celebrate the festival of lights.
As the bright and beautiful festival of Diwali nears us, it is a time for new beginnings, self- reflection and fresh thoughts. Diwali, the festival of lights is a celebration that symbolizes the victory of light over darkness, knowledge over ignorance, good over evil, hope over despair. Observed on the darkest new moon night, which makes the festival of lights even more memorable. Indians along with many other cultures around the world come together for this holiday. Millions of people ready themselves for the beginning of this new year celebration by cleaning, renovating and decorating their homes and offices.
One of the biggest festivals of India, Diwali is reveled with lighted lamps, people wearing their finest and enjoying a beautiful meal with their family and friends. And as with any Indian celebration, dance and music is to ensue! Gifts and sweets are purchased for family members and during this time giving to those in need are given much importance. For it is in giving that you truly receive.
The elegance of Diwali lies not only in its festivities but in its invitation to honor the light within us. Through awareness and self-knowledge, we can dispel the shadows of ignorance, nurturing a profound journey towards personal growth and spiritual awakening. The lighting of the lamps is a symbolic act, an opportunity to release the old and make space for renewal. During this occasion, I take some time for myself to start over, organize my space and reflect on my past year in my life.
This Diwali, take a moment to declutter, reflect, and start anew. Celebrate by honoring the deeper meanings of the Festival of Lights—prosperity, compassion, and inner peace. May your Diwali be filled with joy, clarity and the enduring glow of love.
